Frequently asked questions
Does a teacher automatically see my learners' data once I sign up?
No. Creating a Teacher Portal account gives you nothing by default. To see a specific learner's marks and progress, you send them a request from your class — that learner (or their parent, for younger learners) has to approve it themselves before anything is shared. They can revoke access at any time from their own ExamAce account.
What can I actually see once a learner approves?
Marks, scores and the specific misconception behind a wrong answer, for the subject/class they approved — not their private chats with Ace, and not any other subject they haven't linked to your class.
How does AI Teacher mark work differently from just checking an answer?
It doesn't just say right or wrong — it identifies the specific misconception behind a mistake (e.g. "confused sin and cos" or "forgot to change the sign when moving a term"), the way an experienced marker would annotate a script, so you know what to re-teach.
Where do the mastery percentages on the school dashboard come from?
Real marks your teachers have logged through Mark Work — never survey data or estimates. A topic only shows a mastery % once at least two results have been recorded for it, so one bad day doesn't misrepresent a class.
Is this free right now?
Yes — AI Teacher and AI School Intelligence are in early access at no cost while we refine them with real teachers. We'll be upfront before anything moves to a paid school plan.
How is learner data protected?
Every sharing link needs the learner's own approval (POPIA-aligned consent, not assumed from signing up), is revocable at any time from their account, and old assessment records are automatically deleted after 12 months. See our privacy policy for the full detail.
